As I write this article we are going to print on a fascinating compilation of never before published children’s illustrations by artist Peter Woolcock. Entitled Woolcock’s Wonders, the book features several lively stories and classic nursery rhymes that will captivate junior audiences and make every adult smile. This book serves as a prelude to an exhibition that pays tribute to one of Bermuda’s most talented artists, Peter Woolcock, which opens to the public on January 22.

Woolcock’s Wonders celebrates the artist’s witty, often rhyming verse, accompanied by highly imaginative, beautifully rendered illustrations, such as this FLOMP or this STAR-GAZING TWIFF:

If you are visiting the island and we are still closed for preparation, I encourage you to find Woolcock’s Wonders at the Bermuda Bookstore or Brown & Co. both located on Queen Street. I imagine that readers of all ages will find enjoyment in this publication.

Locally, Woolcock is best known for his satirical political cartoons that captured the topical issues of the day with a most comical spin. For decades Woolcock’s cartoons would open Friday’s newspaper and set the tone for water cooler discourse or weekend humour. We are delighted to host this exhibition, which chronicles Peter’s artistic journey from Argentina to England to Bermuda with artwork from his earliest days to his parting moments. Join us for Peter Woolock: A Tribute, and more.
