The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) is designed to delight and inform visitors of all ages about the importance of preserving the world’s oceans. The remarkable Jack Lightbourn Shell Collection is one of the finest exhibits in existence today. The Teddy Tucker Shipwreck Gallery and The Treasure Room transports you to the mysterious undersea world of shipwrecks, artefacts and valuable relics of historical importance. Explore the mysteries surrounding the legendary Bermuda Triangle.
Experience a virtual shark attack! ‘Dive’ to the depths of the ocean in our virtual submersible without even getting wet.
Living with the Oceans
This new exhibit explores how we interact with our oceans and uses state-of-the art technology allowing for an immersive Google Earth experience. With seven large screens, you can navigate to any point on the planet and “dive” beneath the waves to visit coral reefs around the world. The exhibit also showcases oceanic environmental problems: plastic pollution, global warming, overfishing. In addition, there are interactive displays about Bermuda whales, sharks and reefs.
Built to Win America’s cup
The Built to Win exhibit is about the technology and history of the America’s Cup. This prestigious sailing race is one of the oldest in sporting history; it predates the modern Olympics by 45 years! Throughout history, the America’s Cup has driven innovative designs and technology, and helped shape the sport of sailing. The virtual reality oculus will transport you to a seat on a soaring America’s Cup Catamaran. A grinding machine and racing simulators will let you test your sailing skills. From the artefacts from the first ever America’s cup, to the evolution of boat construction, to the science of sailing and foiling, the exhibit has plenty to learn and plenty to play!
A once in a lifetime journey of adventure and discovery awaits you at BUEI.
