Bermuda is a Spiritual Community

There are many churches in Bermuda, and many denominations – 53,499 people, or 86% of the population, declared being a member of one church or another on the 2000 census. The largest number were Anglican – some 14,000 of them. Roman Catholics weren’t far behind, with 9,275 adherents. Then came the African Methodist Episcopals, or AME's, with 6,803, and Seventh Day Adventists, with 4,042. Pentecostals numbered 2,742, Methodists 2,430 and Presbyterians 1,799.

The noteable historic churches in Bermuda are:
St Peter’s Church in St George’s which is the oldest site of an Anglican Church in continuous use outside Britain, completed in December 1612.

The building skeleton known as the Unfinished Church, also in St George’s, was to have been a replacement church for St Peter’s when it burned.

The Anglican Cathedral in the City of Hamilton was built after Bermuda’s capital was moved from St George’s. Bermuda’s Planning laws dictate that buildings in the City cannot be taller than the Cathedral.

Down at the other end of the Island, in Somerset, there are two sites of interest. St James’s Church on Somerset Road and, off Malabar Road on the way to the Dockyard is the Royal Naval Cemetery.
