Toni Braxton, Estelle, Angie Stone and Ziggy Marley have been announced as the star-studded line up for this year’s Bermuda Music Festival.
The 15th annual festival will take place at the Fairmont Southampton Resort from September 30 to October 2, 2010.
Jamaican musician Marley, who is the oldest son of Rita and Bob Marley, will perform on September 30 on the Beach Club stage.
Soulful songstress Stone, who has been releasing songs since the 1980s, and R&B star Estelle from England, who rose to fame with her American Boy collaboration with rapper Kanye West, will perform on Friday, October 1.
And American R&B singer-songwriter Braxton, who is best known for her number one hits Un-Break My Heart and You’re Makin’ Me High, will perform on Saturday, October 2. She is a six-time Grammy award-winner who has sold more than 40 million records.
Premier Dr. Ewart Brown made the announcement last night in front of about 400 people at the Bermuda Department of Tourism’s Industry Night event.
Dr. Brown said even though this year’s music festival was a “somewhat scaled down event” he insisted: “we’re not skimping on the caliber of talent.”
The international artists will be joined on stage by local talent Homegrown, McCartney K and Friends and the Chewstick Collective.
Last year’s festival featured big-name artists Quincy Jones, John Legend, Wyclef Jean and Erykah Badu to the stage and in 2009 Bermuda welcomed Beyonce and Alicia Keyes.
The festival, which used to be a four-day affair, has previously been criticized for costing too much money and failing to bring in the tourists.
Tickets for the 2010 Bermuda Music Festival go on sale on Monday, July 26 at 9am at www.bdatix.bm
They can also be purchased from the iStore and at Fabulous Fashions at Heron Bay Plaza.
