1st Annual Beach Tennis Tournament 2008

September 19-20 starting at 10am

Bermuda will COME ALIVE with the 1st annual Beach Tennis Tournament featuring the best players in the world on Bermuda's most famous beach HORSESHOE BAY. Make sure you come and enjoy the 3 days of fun on the beach whether your there to watch or play. There will be fabulous beach tennis, a HOT DJ, and very cool drinks and food from the Horseshoe Bay Beach Pavillion. There will be a PRO DIVISION with a chance to win cash prizes, but don't let the hot shots scare you away as we will have a regular men's and women's division and on Saturday 20th, September there will be a special morning for the kids tournament.

Also on Saturday 20th, September the Merrymen will perform LIVE at the Fairmont Southampton Beach, which promises to be a night to remember.

Admission: spectators free, $50 for entry or $100 for entry and beach party.

Labour Day in Bermuda ~ September 1st

September 1st is a Holiday in Bermuda!
 

Labour Day is a Public Holiday in Bermuda. There is a march from Union Square, Hamilton winding through the City and ending at Bernard Park where activities continue throughtout the day. Dignitaries in attendance include Bermuda's Premier and the Oppostion Leader. Food stalls serving local favourites, cultural exhibition, music, games, raffles, Gombeys and majorettes. Preceding the march, a 5-mile running race and walk plus a youth race will take place.

The Bermuda National Gallery and Bacardi Limited are proud to present the 2008 Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Bermuda Art. The 8th Biennial, presented by Bacardi Limited in association with Royal Caribbean International, will run until September 4 and features 86 works by 41 local artists, selected by an international jury from more than 250 submissions from 68 artists.

Catalogue available for $10. Documentary film DVD also available for $10. The Biennial also features a complementary programme of lectures, educational events and panel discussions featuring many of the Biennial artists. For more

Bermuda Fitted Dinghy Races

The Bermuda Fitted Dinghy is probably the only sailing class in the world that allows the skipper to finish a race with fewer crewmen than when he started! Insane or not, the Bermuda Fitted Dinghy has provided Bermudians and visitors with rollicking, thrilling sport since about 1853. The race season is from May to mid - September.

This family open house includes wacky science shows for children, mini research cruises, hands on scientific displays, science demonstrations, underwater explorations with BIOS's remotely operated vehicle, tours or our research ship - RV Atlantic Explorer, a new and exciting puppet show written and staged by local IB students, short science talks and audio visual displays, raffle draw, food stalls and more! The Merrymen or the greatest Calypso and Soca band ever from Barbados! Bermuda's own Kennel Boys open the show. Take a walk down memory lane and be part of the magic of dancing under the stars on a balmy September night on Whale Bay at the Fairmont Southampton Beach. The beach opens at 7pm. Bermuda Fireworks!
 

Glow Worm Cruise on September 16 & 17 at 7:00pm at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, (BUEI), East Broadway, Hamilton. Bermuda's fireworm or "glow worm" produces bioluminescent displays during its mating activities. During the summer nights, between two and three nights after a full moon, after sunset this illuminated mating ritual can be witnessed. Amazing! Call 441 297 7314 for tickets.
