Tall Ships in Bermuda

From June 11 - 15, 2009, the Tall Ships will be in Hamilton to help celebrate Bermuda's 400 years of permanent settlement. This promises to be a truly unique and memorable event, so plan now to attend and be a part of the festivities....... check out the Events link above to see a list of the many exciting things we have planned during this time!

It is all part of the "Atlantic Challenge 2009" which begins from Vigo, Spain and ends in Belfast, Northern Ireland - a true race around the Atlantic and the first since 2000. Each port will host the fleet, with various festivals and activities taking place at every stop along the route.

From Thursday, June 11th to Monday, June 15th, designated streets in Hamilton will be closed TBA.

There will be a "Crew Tent" located at Barr's Bay Park.

Thursday, June 11th
Tall Ships proceed to Hamilton, to assigned berths along the docks and anchorages.
5:30pm - 7:00pm: Official reception for the Ships' Captains at Government House.
7:00pm - 10:00pm: Tall Ships Festival on Front Street. Entertainment, food, crafts, shopping and other fun things to do.
7:30pm - 10:00pm: Captains' Dinner at a local restaurant in Hamilton. This will be attended by local dignitaries, sponsors and Race Officials.

Friday, June 12th
Trainee Sports Events at Horseshoe Bay Beach.
12:00pm - 4:00pm: Open House on selected Tall Ships.
6:00pm - midnight: Crew Party at Barr's Bay Park.
6:00pm - 8:00pm: Party for professional crew, who will join the Trainee's Party afterward.
6:30pm: Press Reception at a local hotel, to be announced.

Saturday, June 13th
9:30am - 12:00 noon: Trainee's Sports Day. Volley Ball, Tug of War, Cricket, etc., at Horseshoe Bay Beach.
12:00pm - 4:00pm: Open House on selected Tall Ships.
6:00pm: Trainee's Parade, led by the Bermuda Regiment Band. The route will be from Front Street to Victoria Park.
7:30pm: Prize Giving Ceremony at Victoria Park. Prizes to be handed out by a local dignitary.
9:00pm - midnight: Entertainment will be provided. Please note that several local restaurants and service clubs will have food & beverages on hand from 7:00pm.

9:30am - 12:00 noon: Island-wide Cod Fish Breakfast to be provided in Bermudian homes, hotels, churches and restaurants.
12:00 noon - 4:00pm: Small boat sailing regatta in Hamilton Harbour, with yacht clubs, sailing clubs and ship's own boats.
1:00pm - 4:00pm: Open House on selected Tall Ships.
5:00pm: Captains' Briefing at the City Hall in Hamilton.
6:00pm: Casual supper reception for Ships' Captains, VIP's and sponsors.
7:00pm - 10:00pm: Concert in the Park.

7:00am: Un-berthing of ships in Hamilton commences. Ships will proceed to the Great Sound.
12:00 noon (approximately): Parade of Sail begins and travels along the North Shore, past Fort St. Catherine to the official Race Starting Line.
4:00pm: Start of race, just off St. David's Head.
