About Port Royal Golf Course

Bermuda's Port Royal Golf Course was home to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in 2009 and 2010 and will host it again in 2011 and 2012. However, unlike many golf courses around the world where top professionals play, Port Royal is a public golf course. Between the pros' tee times each October the spectacularly beautiful course is available to any visitor who wants to play. President Bill Clinton, Boomer Esiason and Dr. J (Julius Irving) are just a few of the people who have already teed it up since the course re-opened in early 2009 - playing shoulder to shoulder with John Q. Public.

The 2012 PGA Grand Slam of Golf will take place October 22 to October 24. To qualify for the Grand Slam field a player must win a Major Championship during the course of the calendar year. The major championships are: the Masters, the U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship. That means the event is comprised of just four players, competing for a $1.35 million purse.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is a memorable fan experience because fans get very close to the action - following the players down the fairway of every hole on the final day. The PGA of America partners with the Fairmont Southampton Resort to provide visitors with vacation packages built around the Grand Slam fan experience.

Hall of Fame golfer Ernie Els won the event last year, taking home Bermuda's famous pink jacket.

Besides a few days around the time of the Grand Slam you can play Port Royal yourself; it's a public golf course. And take our word for it: your digital camera will be as valuable as your golf clubs! Port Royal is breathtaking following a $14 million reconstruction project in 2008. Holes were re-routed, new bunkers added, a reverse osmosis plant built and TifEagle greens installed. They also moved trees to open up the course to some of the most unforgettable views you will ever find on a golf course. We've got plenty of photos to prove it.
