Bermuda has targeted e-Business as a strategic growth industry,
providing financial incentives to cyber-incription and security
firms. Legislation has been fast-tracked to enable firms to
incorporate, issue and list shares to raise capital, and access
superior telecommunication bandwidth. This supportive environment
has led to the development of leading firms in the industry.
With more fiber optic cables strung to Bermuda from the rest of
the world, Bermuda is at the peak of connectivity. This expanded
bandwidth enables international high-speed transfer of data, voice,
and video information. Local telecommunication companies offer
state-of-the-art cellular, microwave, and DSL capacity, along with
a full compliment of T1 and landline services.
The least expensive way for tourists to make calls to the US
from Bermuda would be a long distance card and use it from a pay
phone. Since most people have cell phones, you may wish to use your
own phone and call your service provider to see what it would cost
to call back to the US from Bermuda. If calls are kept to a minimum
it would be the least amount of stress as it is not that easy to
find pay phones anymore! Another way to save money on long distance
calls is to go to an Internet caffe and send E-mails which is
around $10 per hour. You can send more of those in an hour than
talking on the phone!
Most people think of Bermuda as just an exotic vacation
destination. In fact Tourism is second to international business as
a foreign exchange earner. Bermuda is one of the world's leading
offshore jurisdictions; multi-national companies have used Bermuda
as a locale for the management of their worldwide activities since
the 1930's.
Both local and international companies have come to depend on
first-class technology service providers to power and maintain the
everyday functions they have come to depend on.
