As one of Bermuda’s most celebrated artists, Alfred Birdsey stood alone for most of the second half of the 20th century as the only modernist painter working in Bermuda. Entirely self-taught, it is believed he started painting in 1927 at the age of 16. This exhibition of paintings is selected from the extensive collection of E. Michael Jones, one of Birdsey’s major collectors. The paintings, all from the 1970s and 80s, span a period when Birdsey created his most accomplished works.
