A Bermuda Taxi is a very different experience

The preferred way of tourists getting around Bermuda is by taxi, with 78% of our visitors choosing this mode over others. There are some 600 privately-owned taxis in Bermuda, varying from four to six-seaters. Bermuda’s taxi drivers, most of whom maintain meticulously clean vehicles, have an enviable reputation of being very friendly and informative, our “Cab Concierge”. They are readily available from the airport at flight times and there are taxi stands in heavily touristed areas, such as Front Street in Hamilton and King’s Square in St. George’s.

Taxi rates are controlled by law and all taxis have a meter. Rates vary depending on the number of people, luggage, weekday or weekend, Sundays or holidays, and after midnight travel. Many visitors use the same driver on return visits and it is a good idea to have your hotel doorman recommend a driver who will be on hand when needed, rather than standing on a corner trying to hail one. Cash is the method of payment; credit cards are typically not accepted.

Some taxi drivers are certified “Blue Flag” signifying Bermuda Tour approved, a great way to see Bermuda! These drivers have an intimate knowledge of Bermuda and can direct you to the best restaurants, shops, and point out places of interest. A taxi presents a wonderful opportunity to see the island, guided by drivers who know it like the backs of their hands.
