Moving Around Bermuda

Public Transportation

Today, public transportation consists primarily of air-conditioned pink & blue buses and ferries that operate at frequent intervals to most of the visitor destinations throughout Bermuda. The ferry service operates the waters between Hamilton, Paget and Warwick, or from Hamilton to Ireland Island and to St. George’s. Both the bus and ferry service are inexpensive and convenient.

Bus tokens and transportation passes are honoured on buses and ferries. One-day, two-day, three-day, four-day, and seven-day bus passes may be obtained at the Central Bus Terminal on Washington Street in Hamilton, at many hotels and guest houses, the Visitors Information Centres and the Ferry Terminal in Hamilton. Tokens and tickets are also available at these locations. Children age 5 and under ride free! Please note that the bus operators do not accept paper currency and exact change is required.

Buses are also available for group charter.

Private Transportation

Private transportation in Bermuda is available from taxis, scooter rentals, pedal cycles, the Bermuda Railways Train in Dockyard, Hamilton and St. George’s; as well as 19-foot whaler boat rentals for water exploration. A relic of Bermuda’s past is the fringe-topped horse-drawn carriage and there are a few still in service taking visitors on tours of Hamilton and surrounding neighborhoods. They are still a popular mode of transportation at weddings to and from the church.

Transportation Services for the Disabled

Bermuda recognizes the importance of having sufficient transportation services for the disabled person and we want you to be able to enjoy Bermuda as much as anyone. There are members of the community who have helped to make these services available, affordable and convenient for the disabled visitor or resident. Most of Bermuda's ferries and many of Bermuda's ferry terminals are accessible to the disabled. Call the Hamilton Ferry Terminal to confirm accessibility for each ferry stop prior to travelling: 441 295 4506.

Pink & Blue Bermuda Buses

Travelling by bus in Bermuda is an excellent way to get around. 57% of our visitors travel in our pink & blue buses because they are clean, air-conditioned and efficient. Select bus stops are distinguished by a Bermuda-stone shelter, the same material Bermudians use to build their houses. Whether or not there is a shelter, a single pink or blue pole designates a stop. A pink pole signifies the bus is heading to Hamilton, and the blue pole is outbound from Hamilton.

The Central Bus Terminal in Hamilton is on Church Street, just east of City Hall. All bus routes serving Hamilton arrive and depart from this terminal. There are 14 zones each about two miles long and fares vary accordingly.

Bermuda Ferry Service

Bermuda¹s ferries are an excellent way for the disabled person to travel with accessibility at most of the ferry stops, Hamilton Ferry Terminal, Royal Navy Dockyard and Rockaway. There are steps leading to some stops and persons in wheelchairs would need to get in & out of the wheel chair so it could be lifted over the railing at the St. George¹s ferry stop.

Call the Hamilton Ferry Terminal to confirm accessibility for each ferry stop prior to travelling: 441 295 4506
