Exhale The New Mind Body Spa & Fitness Centre at the Pink Palace
By Brigitta Wohlmuth
The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club has long been the city’s epicenter of luxury and recent $100 million-dollar renovations have transformed ‘The Pink Palace’ into an even more sophisticated, yet slightly hipper, version of its former self. Boasting three world-class restaurants, famous contemporary artworks, and it’s own private Marina and Beach Club, it’s not your grandmother’s Hamilton Princess anymore that’s for sure.
Especially since the hotel has teamed up with leading lifestyle and well-being brand, exhale, a Spa/ Mind Body Gym and Fitness Centre, famous for expertly created Barre, Yoga and Cardio Classes. Exhale has state-of-the-art facilities in 10 major US Cities – including Atlanta, LA, New York, Miami and Chicago- as well as in the Turks and Caicos and now (da, da, DA!) Bermuda. The bright and peaceful 8,200-square foot spa and fitness center overlooks Hamilton Harbour, boasting an spa pool and poolside yoga pavilion. The fitness center has nine spa therapy rooms and a studio for group fitness classes.
My first experience at the new Spa is pure bliss. From the moment I check-in, I am welcomed like a member, not merely a guest, as their kind and attentive staff lead me to the dressing rooms where I find an incredibly soft robe and matching slippers to change into before heading to the waiting lounge where I’m met with complementary, exotic herbal teas and my favourite magazines to browse through. I didn’t have to wait long at all before meeting Amelia, my lovely Spa therapist. She made the experience so special by customizing my treatments, a 30 min massage and Express Signature Facial, based on my preferences and concerns. I even got to choose my own blend of massage oils and opted for Detox – a soothing blend of black pepper, rosemary, fennel and sweet orange – good for circulation and firming of the skin. 15 minutes into my treatment and I’m already revealing too much, spilling the beans on my personal life, the stresses of work, home and relationships. Suddenly conscious that I might be crossing a boundary, I apologize to Amelia for boring her with all my self-talk. “It’s okay, this is your therapy session” she forgives me, continuing to knead out all the kinks in my back, inducing me into such a deep state of relaxation that I had no choice but to drop my defenses. She only interrupted my rambling to give me two simple instructions “Inhale deeply…now Exhale”. I obey, and as the breath came gushing out all those little worries just melted away like candle wax.
