The Big Day… Planning Your Wedding in Bermuda by Brigitta Wohlmuth
Here are some of our favourite services for planning a Bermuda-ful wedding:
It’s all about the dress! But unfortunately, that means footwear is often an afterthought. Not to worry. Located on Queen Street in the City of Hamilton is Della Valle Handmade Sandals, a unique boutique where they offer all-Italian leather footwear, lovingly fashioned by sandal-maker Vincenzo Della Valle who as a young boy, trained with the masters in his hometown of Capri. In just a few hours, he can customise sandals for the whole Bridal Party to enjoy well beyond your wedding day! Everyone from the Bride to the Ring bearer can have a custom pair, (yes, he makes shoes for men and kids too) with styles that range from simple leather (available in 40 different colors) to dazzling crystals. Six heel heights and wide or narrow soles are also available, as is their boutique to host bridal party events and private bookings complete with espresso and/or champagne- for that extra special touch! When it comes to photography, Fiander Foto is quickly rising in popularity both locally and overseas having won the Couple’s Choice award this year on WeddingWire – a leading global online marketplace for the wedding and events industry. Melanie Fiander, the photographer, holds a Masters in Fine Art Photography and though originally from Washington DC, she has been based in Bermuda since 2013 after marrying Bermudian hubby Jim West. She specialises in Weddings and Family portraits and has undertaken a number of projects both on Island and overseas, but what she loves most about photographing in Bermuda is “it has a unique landscape and expression. It gives a home town vibe to a wedding” she told the Royal Gazette in an interview earlier this year. (contact: email@example.com or fianderfoto.com)
As for the ring, Davidrose in St. George’s has a reputation as one of Bermuda’s trendiest jewellery stores for bespoke luxury pieces. The owners are husband and wife duo, David and Avrel Rose, who share a love of precious stones and metals, as well as helping other couples to create the ring of their dreams. The experience alone is said to be magical as they meet one-on-one with couples in their beautiful boutique on Water Street, overlooking the crystal blue waters of St. George’s harbour. And speaking of crystals, they carry a gorgeous selection of gems and stones including ethically sourced diamonds in a range of extraordinary colours.
