FAQ

How to Get Around Bermuda?

With 181 islands making up Bermuda, it is safe to say that walking is not the best way to truly explore all the territory has to offer while you are on vacation. As you explore Bermuda’s surroundings or enjoy one of the many restaurants, you can choose several transportation options to help you have the best experience:

  • Mopeds
  • Ferries and Small boats
  • Trains
  • Car rentals
  • Take a Tram Tour

If you want to explore Bermuda on your own, you can travel with moped rentals and car rentals. You can rent them by the day or the hour as you travel around the island.

If you want to travel throughout Bermuda but do not want a personal rental, taxis and tours are available to help you sightsee. Many of the ocean tours and tram tours visit the hot spots so that you see what all Bermuda has to offer.

What are the Common Dress Codes for Restaurants in Bermuda?

If you are heading out to dinner in Bermuda or even a brunch date, there is standard attire that is expected of guests in Bermuda restaurants. Because Bermuda embraces a modest culture, you want to ensure that you are not showing up in swimwear when heading out for dinner in Bermuda.

Feel free to be colorful when picking out a dress or nice slacks for dinner. Your golf gear is ideal for breakfast, brunch, and lunch dates throughout the island, as they embrace the laid-back atmosphere. Your shorts should be tailored and paired with a nice polo if you head out. Men often layer these outfits with a casual blazer, while ladies bring a cardigan to keep them warm in the ocean breeze.

What is the Tipping Etiquette in Bermuda?

When it comes to tipping while in Bermuda, there are a few things to keep in mind. Otherwise, you may find yourself tipping twice. In most cases, at the best restaurants in Bermuda and hotels in the territory, you will notice a service charge on your bill that ranges between 15 and 18 percent. This is added to the bill in lieu of tipping so that you do not have to worry about adding that to your total at the end of a great meal or service. This also protects those in the service industry, allowing them to get their share and splitting it appropriately among the restaurant and hotel service staff.

Maybe you experienced outstanding service and want to add an additional tip to the service charge. This is appreciated but not required or expected to be a regular practice. If you do not find a service charge on your bill, you can leave a tip at your discretion. At a minimum, you should always leave 15 percent, but you can boost that to 18 or 20 percent for outstanding service.

What are the Drinking Laws in Bermuda?

When you visit Bermuda, you will find two important laws that may differ from other parts of the world. First, the drinking age is 18. While many countries have adopted this law, some, like the U.S., have a drinking age of 21, which makes a big difference. The best restaurants in Bermuda will offer a drink menu for you to choose from, with a variety of wine, beer, and your favorite cocktails.

The second important law is that you need to keep the alcohol inside the restaurant. While some places allow public drinking, Bermuda is not one of them. This is meant to protect all the residents and visitors on the island. If you are dining at a restaurant or grabbing a drink at a local bar, make sure you finish your drink before you head back to your residence for the evening.
