Gilbert Nature Reserve is located on the Somerset Road of Somerset Village in Sandy’s. This is now a property of Bermuda National Trust which acquired the reserve in 1973. This is a wonderful 5 acres of forest area full with trees and shrubs. As you walk through the trail, you can see excellent cedar trees at the north-eastern part of the reserve. There are paths from the reserve that lead to the famous Bermuda Railway Trail. There is an excellent old mansion here adjacent to the reserve known as the Springfield which was built around 1740s. You should get inside and experience a great example of Bermuda’s plantation type architecture. You can reach Gilbert Nature reserve by bus number 7, 8 or 14.
